Launching the new Open Access Button. Push Button. Get Research. Make Progress.

The past 18 months has been incredible. We have gone from an idea to a really useful, workable bookmarklet which has helped track thousands of people running into paywalls. Our bookmarklet was great, we love it but we want to grow and make the Open Access Button better, we’re launching the new Open Access Button on Tuesday October 21st. Until then, join our Thunderclap in preparation for the launch.

If you visit openaccessbutton.org, or use the Button over the next few days you’ll begin to see something a little different. The website and app as it is now is will disappear, don’t worry though it’ll be back in Open Access Week.

Over the past year, we’ve partnered with Cottage Labs and have been working incredibly hard to rebuild the Open Access Button to make it sustainable, scalable and more useful to you. If you can’t hold back your excitement until then, there’s plenty you can do to help the launch and Open Access.

What else can you do?

  • Join our Launch Thunderclap, it takes just one minute
  • Find out more about the launch, launch satellite events and the live stream.
  • If you code, you can help us build cool features!
  • Sign our petition in support of Diego Gomez, a student facing prison for sharing research here

We’ll be in touch soon about the new Open Access Button, and in the lead up to Open Access Week. A final word, thank you to all for downloading the current tool and supporting us on this journey – it couldn’t have been possible without you.

Download the free mobile and web app at openaccessbutton.org from October 21st.
