Steven Spielberg

Last night we published one of the first descriptions of the super secret teaser trailer for JJ AbramsSuper 8 (you can read that description here, although I urge you to see it on the big screen in front of Iron Man 2 if you have the patience/will power to do so). We now have even more information  about the project.

We’ve previously confirmed:

  • It is not a Cloverfield sequel or prequel.
  • It is written and directed by JJ Abrams.
  • Yes, produced by Steven Spielberg, along with Bryan Burk and Abrams
  • It will be released in 2011 as an Amblin Entertainment (not Dreamworks) release (Paramount Pictures Distributing, Bad Robot Producing)
  • This will be an homage/tribute to Spielberg’s 1970’s/1980’s Amblin films, like Close Encounters of a Third Kind and E.T. Imagine combining that with the characters, mystery and supernatural spin of Abrams.
  • And it takes place in the late 1979.
  • I’ve seen the trailer and it really does feel like a Spielberg film from the Amblin-era, but at the same time you can also see Abrams fingerprints.

New Information:

  • The trailer was shot independently of the film a month ago, and the special effects were done under the cover of Abrams new NBC series Undercovers
  • Variety says the film will begin principal photography in Fall 2010.
  • The film’s actual budget is in the range of $45 million-$50 million.
  • It will be shot traditionally, and not through a handheld Super 8 Camera ala Cloverfield.
  • It will be released in Summer 2011. The release date could be May 27, 2011. I say this because Paramount, just today, pushed Mission Impossible 4 out of that date, and back to December, leaving the slot open.
  • HeatVision says that actual movie has something to do with “the possibility that a group of kids in 1979 are playing around making movies with their Super 8 cameras (as Abrams and Spielberg did as kids) and accidentally capture something … sinister, on film.” This certainly gels with Vulture’s original theory on the trailer.

This is based on a event that happened in a secret under ground military base in Dulce, New Mexico. Unclassified documents that have been black lined will give you some details about the SUPER 8 program that was being conducted at this base. Alot of people don't get this movie if they are not into Ufology. Super 8 ties in with the Roswell event in theory but Dulce is a whole different issues in Exo-American history. If some of you spent a little more time with open minds instead of pointing a laughing at people who have been telling you that the United States government has had contact with exo-beings and have been classified above top secret in military black programs for over 50 years.

I want a new Star treck movie with the exact same cast as in 2009 Amazing!!!! version
  • VexnadDanger
I saw Iron Man 2 last night at midnight mostly just so i could see this trailer and guess what? Nothing. I'm still mad actually...
  • Smumdax
Am I to understnd that if you'd seen the trailer, then you would've considered going back home without watching Iron Man 2 ? You're not mad, you're dumb ;)
  • greggorybasore
I saw the trailer yesternight and one of the first things a friend said was "why the hell should I be getting worked up about something that won't even be out until next year?" and I can't really argue that point. The hype machine on movies is starting up waaaaay to early these days. I mean fuck... a trailer for something that won't even start filming until fall? Give it a rest guys.
  • TheStapler
Tron is the one that they've been going full bore on viral marketing for a year and a half and it seems like such an unnecessary waste of resources. Nowadays, you really don't need to start that early to get peoples attention. It's a good way to wear people out by the time the movie gets here.
  • cbd
Your right, its way better to wait til post production when they can show us the 3 minute version and we can just skip the actual movie.
  • Alex
Completely agree. In fact, I'm willing to bet the scene in the trailer isn't even part of the movie. It was just done to explain how an alien monster got loose. You hear it here first.
  • i don't know how possible it is for the Lost series finale to have lens flare all over everything. but that would be amazing.
  • " ... it really does feel like a Spielberg film from the Amblin-era, but at the same time you can also see Abrams fingerprints ... "

If by fingerprints you mean lens flare, which there was plenty of during the trailer.
  • jeter0204
Hmmmm this will be interesting, Im sure the viral marketing will be like cloverfields
  • joel_youvegotgeek
So, Spielberg + Abrams = a must see, but having just come from Iron Man 2, the teaser trailer is...blah.

Again- Hype for the project is justified, but the teaser is damn near pointless.
  • So I went and Saw Iron Man 2 this morning, and when they showed Super 8, the crowd actually boo'd at this. I must say, Midnight Movies suck with fans around my area, because they were awful and unintelligent.
  • perhaps they're not awful and unintelligent. just damn impatient, antsy and annoyed because
    a) they've been in waiting in line for hours on opening night and
    b) trailer time is like 10-15 minutes now... further delaying the projection of the film.

but still you could be right though... probably a lot fanbois and 'people who don't know better about transformers 2 being a travesty' attended opening night.
  • Craig
A: I've seen Iron Man 2 a week ago here in New Zealand.
B: It didn't show the Super 8 trailer, especially when it wasn't even ready to be shown until now.

So how am I meant to be 'patient' to see this trailer when I can't actually see it? Not everyone lives in America...post the trailer online! Someone must have recorded it.
  • Jake
wait, they have movie theaters outside the U.S.? That's news to me.
  • greggorybasore
While that's probably true, this isn't really the best place to ask for copy right infringed material. Besides if /film did post a trailer it'd only be a couple of hours before the host site got hit with a take down order. I'm pretty sure movie studios keep an eye on this site to see if any unauthorized videos are floating around.
  • Trevor
    It's obviously Spielberg's long-destined Lincoln biopic.
  • Jake Maxon
If this is going to be a legit Spielberg homage, one thing must absolutely happen: John Williams has to write the score.
  • hailstate
Sorry. Speilberg Jr. already has his own John Williams - Michael Giacchino.
  • Scaroth
bwahahahaha!!!! You insult Williams. Giacchino is good, but he's not even in the same ballpark as Williams. Nobody is, and most likely never will be.

Prime example: Superman The Movie. Check that out on YT. Or the closing credits for Empire Strikes Back. As good as the likes of Giacchino, Silvestri, Elfman et al are (and I like them all - Silvestri's BTTF theme is brilliant), John Williams occupies first place all by himself.
  • hailstate
I was merely referring to the fact J.J. Abrams collaborates w/ Giacchino the same way SS collaborated w/ Williams early on. I like JJ/Giacchino a lot, but they pale in comparison to the SS/Williams pairing.
  • Jake Maxon
I like Giacchino's music for LOST, but his score for Star Trek was lacking. It wasn't bad; it just wasn't memorable. The only part that stood out was the original series theme, and he didn't even write that.
  • greggorybasore
Then in that case Giacchino has to write a score that serves as an homage to Williams.
  • Matthew Thomas
    Its a Zionist propaganda!
  • Michelle
there is always hush around his movies what about cloverfield that one was hyped up and just didnt make the cut with me would love 2 see a sequel to it that isnt filmed with a shaking camera
  • cbd
"would love 2 see a sequel to it that isnt filmed with a shaking camera"

"would love 2 see a sequel to it that isn't a sequel 2 it"

    ... sequel 2 it.
  • papasanchez
JJ. Abrahams IS the new speilberg. I think he's gonna go from strength to strength.

Love his films. It's that simple.
  • tommyorlando
It's not about being "cool", they ARE both Jews. Anyone with film shool training could do what Abrams is doing - but you can't, unless you are a known Jew. That's why Speilberg likes Abrams and why Lou Wasserman gave Speilberg a chance...see a pattern here? Wake up.
  • your mohel
no guys, this dude is definitely onto something. did you know that the jews control the water supply for the great plains region and run the shadow government? they also work as sleeper agents for al-qaeda. i know, i read it on the internet. and have you noticed how suddenly, most people in the CHRISTIAN bible are JEWS? i don't know about you, but I find this mighty suspect...why is nobody asking these questions? the public demands an answer, you rich shadowy entertainment-oriented religion!
  • nolacuse
Because every director working and getting big movies is Jewish? Yea, ok. Paranoid much? Take your racist conspiracy theories elsewhere. I'm sure there are some Aryan Nation websites that would love to have you.
  • papasanchez
You sound like a racist. A racist who doesn't make any sense. If anyone needs to wake up it's you.

This site is for open minded people. Not small minded.
  • Dan
You obviously love both of those movie makers, very very much. Eeeeeverybody loves Speilberg and Abrahams.
  • Boothe
Four score and seven years ago..
  • Craigasorusrex
Has anyone else seen the striking resemblance between the two in pictures used for this and the past Super 8 articles?

Could J.J be a Spielberg clone?
  • Haha, I was going to write the exact same thing and was scanning comments to see if anyone else had written it. I'm sure he's a clone. In fact, maybe there's an Abrams/Spielberg collaborative movie there...
  • gustavo
Maybe Mrs Abrams knew Spielberg in the past...
BTW Happy Day to all the mothers!(in advance)
  • via flashback?
  • Same nose, same eyebrows, same marks... and the fact that they're wearing the same glasses doesn't help.
  • Sarzy
They have mildly similar features, but I think it's the near-identical glasses that really does it.
  • TheGreenMalice
Are you saying that all of "those" people look alike?
  • Earl
    liberals?
  • jess
    moron
  • TheGreenMalice
    directors.
  • Earl
    This is jewtastic news. :/
  • J.J.
    not cool.
  • gustavo
Abrams ...Will be the new Spielberg? The answer: we´ll see in 2011. See you.
