LAS Vegas Sands' head honcho Sheldon Adelson expects his US$5.7 billion Marina Bay Sands integrated resort to attract 125,000 visitors daily when it is fully open.

He made the bold prediction on Wednesday morning at a press conference attended by some 1,100 media representatives ahead of the resorts' grand opening ceremony.

The casino alone attracts some 25,000 visitors daily, one-third of whom are Singaporeans and residents who pay the $100 daily levy or $2,000 annual levy to enter.

A gong ceremony will mark Wednesday's grand opening , which will be followed by a star-studded gala dinner.

The remaining two-thirds of the 2,500 hotel rooms were opened on Wednesday, together with more retail shops, restaurants and additional meetings and conventions facilities.

Its sky garden will open to the public from 2pm on Thursday but the 150m-long infinity-edge swimming pool is open only to hotel guests.

The Art Science Museum, two theatres, two floating pavilions on the bay and the rest of the mall are expected to be progressively completed throughout the year.

The Lion King, the permanent show at one of the theatres will start performing in the first quarter of next year.
