Pete Alonso gets Mets roster spot after amazing spring training

The Mets have followed through with their promise to bring their best 25 players north.

Pete Alonso will be among those players, The Post confirmed, after the top Mets prospect had a scorching spring training.

Alonso hit .352 with four home runs and 11 RBIs as he vied for the first-base job with Dominic Smith, who also had an impressive spring training. It’s unclear who will get the Opening Day start against Washington’s Max Scherzer.

Alonso celebrated on social media.

The Mets could have held Alonso back to start the season for service-time reasons, which would have kept him under contract for an additional year.

“I might cry if they give me the thumbs-up, because it’s a lifelong dream,” Alonso said Monday before the inevitable became reality. “This is my livelihood, my life’s work and to get the thumbs-up, you’re a big leaguer, that’s surreal.”
