ROME, Italy -- Francesco Totti marked his 500th outing for Roma with a goal as the second-placed Serie A club trimmed Inter Milan's league lead to six points with a 2-0 win at Napoli on Sunday.

Francesco Totti helped cap a successful week for Roma with a goal in his 500th game for the club.

Roma, who eliminated Spanish giants Real Madrid from the Champions League in midweek, went ahead in just the second minute when Totti set up Simone Perrotta.

And skipper Totti doubled his side's advantage four minutes after half-time from the penalty spot when Daniele Mannini was ruled to have tugged back Cicinho in the box.

AC Milan bounced back from their midweek Champions League exit and boosted their hopes of qualifying for next year's tournament with a 3-1 victory at Empoli.

Milan closed to within a point of fourth-placed Fiorentina, who lost 1-0 at Siena, with two goals in the last five minutes.

Teenage Brazilian striker Pato put the visitors ahead in the 19th minute after an error by goalkeeper Davide Bassi, but struggling Empoli equalized five minutes later when Antonio Busce rifled in a shot at the far post.

Milan striker Alberto Gilardino then had an effort ruled out for offside, while Empoli's Claudio Marchisio hit the post in the second half.

Four minutes from time, Massimo Ambrosini headed home a cross from Kaka, who then wrapped up the scoring with a minute left.

Juventus consolidated third place with a 2-0 win at Genoa, moving four points clear of Fiorentina.

Zdenek Grygera gave Juve the lead on 25 minutes and French forward David Trezeguet returned to the top of the Italian scoring charts by doubling the advantage seven minutes later.

Siena moved away from the relegation zone thanks to Massimo Maccarone's 80th-minute free-kick -- but the striker was then sent off as he received a second booking for taking off his shirt in celebration.

Torino beat 10-man Atalanta 1-0 with a 36th-minute winner by Simone Barone, with Maximiliano Pellegrino sent off soon after.

Sampdoria won 2-1 at Parma, Lazio beat Livorno 2-0 and Catania beat bottom side Cagliari 2-1.

Third-placed Juventus travel to Genoa in the day's late game. E-mail to a friend E-mail to a friend
