Loving Vincent's dazzling visual achievements make this Van Gogh biopic well worth seeking out -- even if its narrative is far less effectively composed.

Robert Daniels 812filmreviews As the colors shimmer and shake, we understand how the artist viewed the world, as not only static existence, but as vibrant action. Rated: 3.5/4 Aug 27, 2018 Full Review Sandra Hall Sydney Morning Herald There is so much going on in every frame that it's hard to stop thinking long enough to become emotionally involved. But it hardly matters. This time it really is a case of art for art's sake. Rated: 4/5 Nov 8, 2017 Full Review Jessica Kiang The Playlist The point of Van Gogh's style on the canvas was always its dynamism, its motility, so to see that style in motion is a curiously over-literal treat. Rated: B- Nov 1, 2017 Full Review Denise Pieniazek A Sala Llena (Argentina) Loving Vincent invites us to observe his images as if they were paintings in motion or tableaux vivants through an extraordinary work of realization. It achieves Van Gogh's objective by touch others through his art, placing us in constant contemplation. Rated: 9/10 Jan 14, 2024 Full Review Daniel Howat Next Best Picture In one of the most interestingly animated films in quite some time, "Loving Vincent" paints a beautiful and complex picture of tortured artist Vincent Van Gogh. It's a stunning achievement that boggles the mind, but the final result is beautiful. Rated: 7/10 May 19, 2022 Full Review Dennis Harvey 48 Hills Loving Vincent is so visually rich, even intoxicating, that you can just turn off your brain (and perhaps the soundtrack of voice actors) and experience full sensory overload watching the extraordinary animation craftsmanship at work. S P Superb on all accounts, the story is endearing, the visuals are beautiful and stimulating. A must watch for those who are familiar to van Gogh's works, but also those that want to discover it. A masterpiece of European art. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/18/24 Full Review Alec B I wish they'd put half as much effort into the screenplay as they did the admittedly stunning animation. Hell, even jettisoning the plot might have been the better bet that way we could simply enjoy the imagery. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/05/24 Full Review ryan b Incredible movie. Each frame painted in the style of Vincent and great storyline it is a must watch. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/26/23 Full Review Francisco S Sometimes the animation is hard to watch but it captures the many relations the artist had. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/15/23 Full Review Igor F Do meu ponto de vista pessoal é uma obra prima, é de se tirar o chapéu Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/06/23 Full Review Kenneth A It leaves to us the audience, who always knew Vincent van Gogh was a brilliant Artist, all the reasons why his art and his life can effortlessly pierce through our souls. The film really did stick to that and I personally appreciated it so much! Also, I felt the dedication of many oil painters, actors and personnel on this film. Just imagining it makes me speechless.
