Indians send struggling Chisenhall, Ramirez to minors
CLEVELAND -- The Indians have demoted half of their struggling infield, sending Lonnie Chisenhall and shortstop Jose Ramirez to Triple-A Columbus.
The club made the moves late Sunday night, following hours of speculation they might be prepared to bring up shortstop Francisco Lindor, the top prospect in Cleveland's organization.
Instead, they sent Chisenhall, batting just .209 with four homers and 19 RBI in 52 games, to the Clippers. Ramirez, too, will report to the minors after batting .180 with eight RBI in 46 games.
To replace Chisenhall and Ramirez, the Indians recalled infielders Giovanny Urshela and Zach Walters.
Urshela will make his major league debut Tuesday against Seattle. At Columbus, he batted .275 with three homers and nine RBI in 21 games. He missed the exhibition season with lower back inflammation.
Walters has spent most of the season with the Clippers, batting .259 with two homers and 15 RBI. He appeared in seven games earlier this season with the Indians.
