Description A Japanese National Cultural Treasure and UNESCO World Heritage Site, Himeji Castle is the oldest and most famous of Japan's castles. It was originally built between 1333 and 1346 by Akamatsu Sadanori. The castle was later destroyed and rebuilt by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1580. With expansions made between 1601 and 1608 by Ikeda Terumasa, and restorations done in 1956, Himeji Castle remains intact to this day.
