Heidar Helguson scored a brace to help Watford sink Scunthorpe.
The striker, on loan from QPR, opened the scoring when he nodded in Tom Cleverley's cross.
Helguson doubled the lead when he thumped home another header and with Scunthorpe reeling Adrian Mariappa had a shot cleared off the line.
Helguson then headed narrowly wide when well-placed before Danny Graham latched on to Henri Lansbury's pass to slot in and seal the victory.
Watford boss Malky Mackay:
"It certainly was a (good day). To score three goals, keep a clean sheet, and another three points is certainly very pleasing.
"The partnership with Heidar and Danny certainly caused people problems.
"I am delighted that Danny got his goal because he's been working so hard in training and in games."
Scunthorpe boss Nigel Adkins: "We knew Watford were a good side, very lively and industrious in the centre of the park and having Henri Lansbury with us last year, we knew that.
"I thought their midfield were superb, their front two did very well, and the front five were excellent.
"But if we can't defend a simple cross into the middle of the six-yard box then we're not going to win games."
