Efforts to 'retake' Afghan town

Ghazni map

Nato-led forces in Afghanistan say their soldiers and Afghan troops are attempting to retake an area which insurgents seized earlier this week.

Air strikes have been used against the insurgents in the Ajristan district centre in Ghazni province, the Nato force Isaf says.

Several insurgents have been killed or wounded in the operation, it says.

It said the militants had taken over the centre in retaliation for the arrest of one of their leaders.

The provincial authorities said 15 suspected members of the Taleban had been killed in the fighting.
