  • PIT Third Baseman #13
So much for it being a non-issue. Clearly, the Pirates don’t want to take any chances here after Hayes missed a couple contests earlier this week with a lingering back issue. The 27-year-old will likely wind up missing at least a couple weeks to ensure that it doesn’t become a recurring issue.
  • TB Relief Pitcher #29
Fairbanks makes his return to Tampa Bay’s closer role following a three-week absence due to a nerve-related condition in his right hand. The 30-year-old stopper struggled in eight appearances to open the year, but looked sharp earlier this week in a pair of minor league rehab appearances for Triple-A Durham. He should take over the closing duties for the Rays with relief ace Jason Adam continuing to vulture the occasional save chance.
  • PIT Starting Pitcher #30
Skenes will take the ball on Saturday afternoon against the Cubs at PNC Park in the most anticipated pitching debut since Stephen Strasburg back in 2010. The flame-throwing 21-year-old first-overall selection from the 2023 MLB Draft has checked every box this season for Triple-A Indianapolis during his meteoric ascent, posting a microscopic 0.99 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 45/8 K/BB ratio across 27 1/3 innings (seven starts). He projects as an immediate impact fantasy contributor, thanks to his elite strikeout upside, despite some looming workload limitations.
  • MIL Relief Pitcher #38
Williams opened the season on the injured list recovering from a pair of stress fractures in his back and isn’t expected to return to Milwaukee’s closer role until around midseason. The 29-year-old All-Star stopper should kick off his throwing program in a few weeks, if not sooner, and be ready to progress to bullpen sessions at some point in June before starting a minor league rehab assignment.
  • SEA Starting Pitcher #22
All indications are that Woo will make his next start on Wednesday against the Royals after making a precautionary exit from Friday’s return outing against the Athletics after experiencing forearm tightness during an extended break between the fourth and fifth innings. His fastball velocity dipped significantly in the fifth inning following the layoff, which led to a visit from Seattle’s training staff and his removal from the contest. It doesn’t sound like a serious concern at this juncture, but it’s certainly a situation fantasy managers should monitor closely. There should be some clarity on his status at some point in the coming days when he throws his usual between-starts bullpen session. Stay tuned.
  • SD Relief Pitcher #34
Sensational. King was excellent against the Diamondbacks on Saturday, but this was a different level for the 28-year-old. He did walk three, but he threw 74-of-106 pitches for strikes and was able to get the punchout if there was even a sniff of trouble. The right-hander now has a 3.67 ERA and 54/24 K/BB, and he’s shown why the Padres were adamant about acquiring his services in the Juan Soto trade. Sadly, King doesn’t get a win because his bullpen blew a 1-0 lead after he left. He should keep the good run going against the Rockies at home next week.
  • SEA Starting Pitcher #22
Such a bummer. Woo was making his season debut after battling elbow inflammation, and he had allowed just one hit in 4 1/3 scoreless innings before departing. It wasn’t obvious what the problem was, but it most likely was the arm acting up. Although it seemed like he wanted to keep going, the Mariners wouldn’t let him throw warmups to make his case.
  • PHI Starting Pitcher #55
The 28-year-old southpaw scattered just three hits on the evening while issuing two free passes. While two of the three hits that he allowed were doubles, the Marlins never seriously threatened against him. Suárez got nine swings and misses on 97 pitches on the night, posting an elite CSW of 36 percent. He now sits at 7-0 on the season with an impeccable 1.50 ERA, 0.72 WHIP and a 55/8 K/BB ratio over 54 innings through his first eight starts. He’ll look to keep the good times rolling when he takes the mound against the Mets on Wednesday night.
  • CHC Shortstop #7
Swanson sat out of Wednesday’s contest due to soreness in his knee, and now he’ll be out for at least an additional week while recovering. Fortunately, the Cubs also got good news on the injury front on Friday with Seiya Suzuki being activated from the injured list in a corresponding move. Expect Nico Hoerner to slide over and cover shortstop while Swanson is shelved, leaving Miles Mastrobuoni to see increased action at second base.
  • NYY Right Fielder #99
Judge’s tape-measure shot to left-center field off Astros relief ace Ryan Pressly slashed New York’s deficit to just a single run in the eighth inning. The 32-year-old former AL MVP Award winner has started to heat up at the dish with three big flies in his last four contests. It’s going to take a while for his surface stats to fully recover from his frosty start, but he’s up to .236/.362/.493 with 19 runs scored, nine homers, 25 RBI and two steals through 175 plate appearances.
