Luke Chambers has joined Ipswich Town, signing a three year deal.

The 26-year-old defender arrives at Portman Road as a free agent, having come to the end of his contract at Nottingham Forest, and trained with his new team-mates for the first time today.

Kettering-born Luke started his career at Northampton and after progressing through the youth system at Sixfields, went on to make 149 first-team appearances for the club.

He joined Forest in January 2007 and became a regular in their side, clocking up 229 games in his five years at the City Ground.

He was named Player of the Year by Forest fans in 2010/11 and was handed the captain's armband by new manager Steve McClaren at the start of last year.

"I'm delighted to be an Ipswich Town player," Luke told the Club website.

"I spoke to a few people in the game that know the manager and Ipswich and they had nothing but good words to say. Coming here was a no brainer for me."

Paul Jewell added: "There were a few clubs in for Luke but I always felt confident we would get him and I'm delighted we have."

Luke becomes Town's second signing of the summer following 18-year-old Elliott Hewitt's arrival from Macclesfield.
