SP Balasubrahmanyam loses his mother

Condolences are pouring in as singer SP Balasubrahmanyam lost his mother. SPB, as he is called, is one of the most feted singers of our times, and has sung over 40k songs in various languages.
We were informed that SPB’s mother, Sakunthalamma, passed away in Nellore in the early hours on February 4 due to age-related ailments. She was 89 years old. Sakunthalamma married SP Sambamurthy, a harikatha artiste, and had eight children - three sons and five daughters, including playback singer SP Sailaja.It was she who motivated SPB to take up singing and become the singer he is today, who, it is being said, was in London for a musical concert, when he heard the news. He immediately returned; and her last rites are being conducted in Nellore.
