Colombia‘s Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has entered helmer Carlos Moreno‘s drug crime thriller “El Cartel de los sapos” (The Cartel of Snitches) in the foreign Oscar race.

Pic is based on the life story of former drug trafficker Andres Lopez, who first adapted his memoir into a telenovela for Colombia’s Caracol TV and co-penned the movie screenplay.

Produced by 11:11 Films, pic stars Diego Cadavid, Kuno Becker and Tom Sizemore as a drug enforcement agent.

Moreno is a Sundance regular whose previous pics “Perro come perro”(Dog eat Dog) and “Todos tus muertos” (All Your Dead Ones) received several noms and a cinematography award for the latter at the Utah fest.

Thesp Laura Garcia is prexy of Colombia’s fledgling 300-member Academy along with producer Diego Ramirez and helmer-scribe Lisandro Duque.
