We had high hopes of getting a -lowlatency kernel into the repos and
therefore on the image.  Alas,  we were unable for Natty.  Therefore, Ubuntu
Studio will ship with the 2.6.38 -generic kernel.

For Ocelot there are two great things happening.  Our work trying to get the
-lowlatency kernel into Natty was not in vain and I believe we are in a
very, very good position to get the -lowlatency into the repos for Ocelot.
If it is in the repos then we can ship it on the image :)

Testing the -lowlatency versus the -generic will ultimately determine if it
is still required though.  Please help us test.  Ailo and Alessio Bogani
have several emails on the list regarding this.

Also, it appears that the kernel (at least 2.6.39) that ship with Ocelot
will also allow irq threading to avoid irq conflicts.  We expect this to be
great news for many firewire device users and it will allow them to avoid
irq conflicts without have to have the -rt kernel, which is not always
available or aligned with the current kernel.

== Video and Graphics ==
For graphic applications, we have:
 * gimp
 * inkscape

For Video, we have:
 * blender
 * ffmpeg
 * openshot
 * shotwell
 * xjadeo

There are other things like xsane and brasero that are shipped with them,
but these are not necessarily video or graphic applications as I expect you
are querying.

Please feel free to add to this wiki page, but please don't erase other's
work.

We would like to frame this in terms of a user's goal.  Their goal isn't to
install blender because it's cool, the goal is to seriously edit some film.
So the "task" would be to produce a movie.  Then outline the steps and the
applications needed to accomplish this "task".

If the task is something that a significant amount of users will want then
we will ship those packages if they are in the repos.

We have already made appreciable improvements with audio, now we are moving
into graphics and video.  Help us please.
