It has not been a great week in the Middleton household. Just days after the shock announcement that Prince William has split from Kate, I have news of further heartbreak.
Kate's younger sister, Pippa, has separated from her wealthy aristocratic boyfriend JJ Jardine Patterson, whom she has been dating for three-and-a-half years.
The 22-year-old Edinburgh University student has told friends that she ended her relationship with the wealthy heir of the Hong Kong banking family because of his reluctance to commit to a serious relationship.

"Pippa and JJ are going through a rough patch and have agreed to a trial separation,' says a chum.
"They have always had a tempestuous relationship and have broken up a couple of times before.
"One of the problems is that Pippa has a soft spot for her flatmate George Percy, the son of the Duke of Northumberland."
The Middleton sisters, who are incredibly close, have spent the past two weekends consoling one another, with Pippa making trips from Edinburgh to London to be with Kate.
"They have both been saying more or less the same things to each other,' says a friend. "They are complaining about the men in their lives who won't be pinned down.
"They have both been going through a difficult time. The irony is that JJ bears such an uncanny resemblance to William.
"It's the ongoing joke at Edinburgh - and to make matters worse Pippa is the spit of Kate."
English student Pippa and 22-year-old JJ met at Edinburgh University. As well as 20-year-old George, Pippa also flat-shares with Edward Innes-Ker, the 22-year-old son of the Duke of Roxburghe.
