Ipswich midfielder Jim Magilton and five Bolton players have been charged with misconduct by the Football Association following last week's play-off semi-final second leg at Portman Road.

Magilton, who scored a hat-trick to help Ipswich to a 7-5 aggregate victory, escaped punishment from referee Barry Knight on the night despite appearing to kick Bolton midfielder Paul Warhurst.

But the FA confirmed on Thursday that he had been charged with misconduct along with Warhurst and five other Bolton players.

Claus Jensen, Paul Ritchie, Gudni Bergsson, Michael Johansen and Warhurst surrounded Knight after he awarded a second penalty to the home side and they have been charged with intimidating a match official.

Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce has also been charged with misconduct for comments made about the referee after the match.

The Lancashire club have 14 days to respond and say they "will not be rushing into a response."
