With “Arrow” wrapping up its fourth season on May 25, star Stephen Amell is already looking ahead to Season 5.
Speaking to Variety Thursday morning at the CW Upfront in New York City, Amell teased a new bad guy.
“I’ve heard that our big bad, our villain, is something that you can really only do once you’re in the fifth, sixth or seventh season of a TV show,” Amell said.
Asked if he knew more details, Amell teased, “I do,” but didn’t offer to spill anything more.
But, he did give a little hint: “As far as I know, they don’t have superpowers. I’ll tell you that.”
As for the upcoming season in general, Amell is excited to get back to “Arrow’s” roots in its fifth go-around, and notes that next season, the CW does not have any new superhero shows for the flagship to help launch.
“‘Supergirl’ is coming, but we don’t have to introduce a new show next year. In Season 2, it was the introduction of ‘The Flash‘ and crossovers there, and last year there was a lot with ‘Legends of Tomorrow,’ and we don’t have to do that this year because ‘Supergirl’ is already established,” Amell said. “So I would like to focus on a lot of the stuff that I think ‘Arrow’ does very well.”
He’s also looking forward to crossovers — especially after this morning’s announcement that there is going to be a four-way crossover with “Arrow,” “Flash,” “Legends” and CW’s newest addition, “Supergirl.”

“I’m always interested and it’s always great for fans. I just have to make sure that they balance keeping up the quality of your show — last year when they wanted me to come to ‘Legends’ and play old Oliver, I was like, ‘That would be awesome, but show me how this works in our schedule so it’s not comprising whatever episode we’re working on.’ And it was great and we did it. So I would just like to see a plan.”
The “Arrow” Season 4 finale airs Wednesday, May 25 at 8 p.m. on The CW.
