Welcome to Fanny M. Hillers School Website

Fanny M. Hillers School is located in the Southwest section of Hackensack near the Hackensack University Medical Center and only miles from New York City. Our school is steeped in heritage and tradition, dedicated to setting high standards and expectations for each child.

At Hillers School, staff, parents and community members work together to create a joyous and caring learning environment for our children. Please enjoy learning about our school where real learning  and growth takes place. To that end, I would like to thank my staff for taking time to create and help make this website come alive!

  • Mission Statement: The Fanny M. Hillers School Community believes that every child is unique and capable of reaching the highest standards of academic and social success. Our Mission is to achieve the standards in leadership, staff development, curriculum, instruction, school climate, community support, and student achievement. This will serve as both the blueprint for our improvement efforts and provide the benchmarks by which we will evaluate our progress.

  • History of Fanny Meyer Hillers: On May 21, 1927, the cornerstone was laid for the Longview Avenue School .  During the ceremony, a telegram was received announcing that Charles Lindbergh would land in Paris within the hour on the completion of his historic Trans-Atlantic flight.  A suggestion was made that the new school be named "The Lindbergh School" in honor of the occasion.  However, it was rejected by the Board of Education on the grounds that "schools are not named for living persons."  The school opened officially on December 13, 1927.

In 1949, the Board of Education authorized a ten-room addition to the school.  In 1950, the name Longview Avenue School was officially changed to Fanny Meyer Hillers School after an educator who had devoted forty-one years of service to the Hackensack Public Schools.

In 1971, The Hillers School added a sizable addition of classroom and cafeteria space to accommodate increased enrollment.

In 2001, a six-room addition was completed.  The addition extends out on to the playground and includes an elevator for handicapped access.  Presently, the school houses over 530 students from grades Pre-K through Grade 4.
