Oscar Isaac will reteam with Ex Machina director Alex Garland for the upcoming sci-fi adaptation, Annihilation...

It’s been some time since we’ve heard word of progress on Alex Garland’s next movie, but the Ex Machina writer/director has just added a familiar face to the cast of it.

Garland is adapting Jeff VanderMeer’s science fiction thriller Annihiliation for the big screen, and for some time, Natalie Portman has been attached to the project.

Now we learn that Oscar Isaac too is on board, presumably once he’s done with his Star Wars: Episode VIII duties. He’s joining Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez and Tessa Thompson, who are also signed up for the film.

Isaac co-starred in Ex Machina, of course.

Annihilation is about a biologist, played by Portman, whose husband disappears. She thus puts her name forward for an expedition into an environmental disaster zone, but doesn’t quite find what she’s expecting.

Hopefully, Garland will start filming Annihilation this year, maybe for release in 2017. More on that as we hear it…
