Double-A catcher Josh Thole will be with the Mets on Tuesday in Colorado, the Mets have confirmed.
Thole, a 13th-round draft pick in 2005, hit .328 with one homer, 46 RBI and eight steals in 384 at-bats with Double-A Binghamton. The 22-year-old Thole, who caught in high school, had played only 28 games behind the plate during his first three professional seasons. But when first-string catcher Sean McCraw was struggling as a hitter at St. Lucie last season, Thole assumed the primary catching responsibilities and took off.
Thole threw out 26 of 86 attempted base stealers to challenge him this season (30.2%).
Meanwhile:
Carlos Beltran has been cleared to begin a rehab assignment Wednesday with the Brooklyn Cyclones wearing a knee brace.
Johan Santana and Oliver Perez will undergo their surgeries Tuesday.
And outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis and infielder Zach Lutz have joined the B-Mets from St. Lucie.
Since when does a bone bruise require a brace? Think the team doctors mis-diagnosed?
