MAKIN’ LOVE
Hi,
I was at a drag show last week and someone did a lip sync to a remake of Bad Company’s “Feel Like Makin’ Love,” sung by a woman. Any idea who the artist might be?
Thanks,
GLF
Hello,
I searched through some of our charts books here in the office, and the most likely suspect is Millie Jackson. The female R&B singer did a cover of the Bad Company hit on her 1975 “Free and in Love” album. Her version of the track reached No. 71 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart, while the Spring Records album hit No. 17 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums tally.
Bad Company’s original version hit No. 10 on The Billboard Hot 100 in 1975.
JUSTIFY THIS SALES RECORD
Hi,
I read somewhere a long time ago that Madonna’s “Justify My Love” video single was the biggest selling music video of all time. Could you please tell me if this is still the case, or has her record been shattered by another artist?
Thanks!
Ricky C.
Hi Ricky,
Madonna’s “Justify My Love” is still the biggest selling video single of all time, according to the Recording Industry Association of America. The VHS-only release has been certified four times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), signifying U.S. shipments of 200,000 units to retailers.
Only four other video singles have been certified platinum (for U.S. shipments of 50,000 units shipped). They are: Kris Kross’ “Jump,” Whitney Houston’s “The Star Spangled Banner,” M.C. Hammer’s “Here Comes the Hammer,” and Johnny Cash’s “Hurt.” The latter was bundled with select copies of Cash’s album “American IV: The Man Comes Around,” and the certification reflects shipments of the album/video combination.
“Justify My Love” spent two weeks at No. 2 on Billboard’s Top Music Videos chart in 1991, and 39 weeks on the tally overall.

‘THUG’ SALES ORDER
Hi,
I am just wondering if it be possible for you to indicate to me the sales achieved by veteran rap group Bone Thugs-N-Harmony’s latest effort, “Thug World Order.” This information would be very beneficial, as we the fans would love to know, since they have not been on the charts for months now.
Thanks a lot,
Daryl,

Hi Daryl,
Bone Thugs-N-Harmony’s “Thug World Order” has sold 338,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. The Ruthless/Epic album was released in October 2002, and peaked at No. 3 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and No. 12 on The Billboard 200.
