BEIJING — Chang Jung-Chi’s debut feature “Touch of the Light” will rep Taiwan in the foreign-language film category at the Academy Awards.

Pic is based on the life of blind Taiwanese piano prodigy Yu Hsiang, who plays himself. It also stars Sandrine Pinna, Huang Yu-Siang and Lee Lieh, who recently won best actress for the film at the Taipei Film Awards, with a special appearance by Sheu Fang-Yi.

It is produced by Jacky Pang Yee Wah and Chang Hong-Tat for Wong Kar Wai’s Jet Tone Films. Fortissimo Films is handling international sales.

Pic is on release in Taiwan by Warner Brothers, and it will have an international bow at next week’s Busan Film Festival.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will announce the five nominees for foreign-language film on Jan. 10. The 85th Academy Awards ceremony takes place Feb. 24.
