UFC Moscow results: Jan Blachowicz submits Nikita Krylov

Esther Lin, MMA Fighting

Saturday marked Nikita Krylov’s return to the UFC, in a hometown fight, to boot.

But Jan Blachowicz was there to spoil the party.

The veteran light heavyweight from Poland used expert ground work to finish the 26-year-old Muscovite in the co-feature bout of UFC Moscow, eventually locking in a D’Arce choke to finish his opponent at the 2:41 mark of the second round.

“I just waited for the moment to submit him, that’s it,” Blachowicz said after his 10th career submission victory.

Krylov, who was 6-3 in the UFC in his previous stint, won all four bouts outside the UFC afterwards. But Blachowicz never let him find his rhythm upon his Octagon return, using crafty ground work to keep his opponent stifled throughout the first round.

It was much of the same in the second, as Blachowicz used deft transitions to ultimately body scissor Krylov, trapping him in order to apply the successful D’Arce.

Just like that, Blachowicz, who lost four of his six UFC fights, has now won four in a row. He’d like champion Daniel Cormier next, but barring that, would like to tangle with Alexander Gustafsson.

“If DC is not ready, let’s do it with Gustafsson again,” he said.

Krylov dropped to 24-6 and his still never gone the distance, win or lose.
