With the release of two well-received EPs, a top 10 album and, now, its followup, Troye Sivan’s career is in full bloom.
The Aussie singer, songwriter, actor and former YouTube phenom has unleashed his sophomore album Bloom, the followup to 2015’s Blue Neighbourhood.
Written by Sivan with a string of in-demand collaborators, including Ariel Rechtshaid, Bram Inscore and Brett McLaughlin, Bloom features the previously-released tracks “My My My!,” “The Good Side,” “Dance To This” featuring Ariana Grande, “Animal” and its title track.
Bloom’s predecessor, Blue Neighbourhood, peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard 200 chart, won two ARIA Awards and has earned 586 million on-demand streams for its songs in the U.S., according to Nielsen Music. Sivan’s TRXYE (2014) and Wild (2015) EPs both peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard 200. In the five years since he signed to EMI, Sivan’s global streams are now well over 3.5 billion, according to the music major.
Speaking on the Billboard Pop Shop Podcast, the 23-year-old says he’s found a creative sweet spot. “I think my first album was kind of like a coming-of-age album where I felt like I was really finding my feet and kind of figuring out sort of my place in the world a little bit,” Sivan tells Billboard. “This (new) album felt a lot more like, ‘I’m here now and I kind of get how things work a little bit more’ and it’s me sort of enjoying the kind of fruits of my labor from the first album.”
Just ahead of the release, Troye live-streamed his performance on the Honda Stage and he’ll support the new album with the north American Bloom Tour, which starts Sept. 21 in Irving, Texas.
