Navid Negahban is set to join Chris Hemsworth in the Afghanistan War drama “Horse Soldiers” from Black Label Media and Jerry Bruckheimer Films.

He joins Michael Shannon, Ben O’Toole, and “Moonlight” breakout Trevante Rhodes. Nicolai Fuglsig is directing from a script by Peter Craig and Ted Tally.

Producers are Jerry Bruckheimer, Molly Smith, Trent Luckinbill, and Thad Luckinbill. Chad Oman is exec producing.

“Horse Soldiers” is based on Doug Stanton’s book following a U.S. Special Forces team and their captain after they are dispatched to a mountainous region of Afghanistan in the weeks immediately following 9/11. The soldiers must join forces with a Northern Alliance warlord, General Abdul Rashid Dostum, played by Negahban, to fight against overwhelming odds to drive out the Taliban.

Lionsgate is handling foreign sales on the project, recently selling it at the American Film Market.
