WATCH: Yankees' Mason Williams homers for 1st career hit

BALTIMORE -- Mason Williams nearly raised his hands over his head, and then he realized he better round the bases first.

Williams homered for his first career hit in the fourth inning against the Orioles Friday night.

The Yankees called up Williams for the first time in his professional career during the off day Thursday.

With Didi Gregorius on second base, Williams crushed Ubaldo Jiminez's 90-mph fastball in an 0-1 count. There was no doubt it would soar over the wall in right-center field, cutting Baltimore's lead to 5-3.

Williams, 23, had his family in the stands for the milestone, which came after he struck out in his first career at-bat. He earned the call-up by mashing at Double-A Trenton and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He's filling in for outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury, who's on the disabled list with a knee strain.
