FAU’s Devin Singletary named Second Team All-American by Sporting News

FAU running back Devin”Motor” Singletary was named a Second Team All-American by Sporting News on Tuesday.

Singletary led the nation in rushing touchdowns this season with 22, and was No. 2 in the national in total touchdowns. Singletary led Conference USA in rushing yards (1,348), rushing yards per game (112.3) and scoring per game (11.0). His 11.0 points per game were also No. 3 nationally.

The Owls’ all-time leading rusher has not decided whether to return for his senior season or declare for the NFL draft, although he said before season’s end he has given the NFL some thought.

In his three seasons with the Owls , the Deerfield Beach native and American Heritage-Delray grad has 66 rushing touchdowns, which ranks him No. 6 on the all-time Football Bowl Subdivision list (and the most ever among those having only played three years).

Singletary was chosen last week as Pro Football Focus C-USA Player of the Year.

This is the second consecutive season that the junior running back has found his name listed among the nation’s best. In 2017, he became the first FAU football player to ever earn Associated Press All-All-American honors following a season in which he tallied 32 rushing touchdowns and 33 touchdowns overall.

Sporting News is one of five outlets that picks All-Americans, along with the Walter Camp Football Foundation, The Associated Press, the Football Writers Association of America and the American Football Coaches Association.

Florida Atlantic wide receiver Jovon Durante announced on on Dec. 5 he is declaring for the NFL draft, the first Owls football player to do so this season. Durante transferred to FAU from West Virginia and was a Miramar graduate.
