特徴

眼が大きく黄金色に光って見えることからこの名がある。水深２００〜８００ｍの深海にすむが、夜になるとやや浮上してくる。幼魚は浅い大陸棚付近にすむ。成魚は小魚や小型のイカ・エビ類などを食べる。エサをためておく機能が発達している。産卵期は相模湾では８〜１０月頃で直径１mm位の浮遊卵を産む。動物性プランクトンを食べながら成長し、次第に深海の岩礁や海付近へと移る。網膜に反射層があり、深海での弱い光を有効に利用している。

分布：釧路沖以南の太平洋岸、世界中の温帯・熱帯	大きさ：50cm

ナンヨウキンメ (学名: Beryx decadactylus )はキンメダイ科に属する深海性の中型海水魚である。熱帯・亜熱帯を中心とした世界中の海に生息し、日本にも南日本を中心に生息する。同属種のキンメダイによく似るが、体高が高く、強く側扁した体型を持つことで区別できる。水深110-1000 mの海底近くを群れを作って泳ぎ、無脊椎動物や小魚を捕食する。漁業の対象となることもあるが、むしろキンメダイを対象とした漁業で混獲されることが多い。食用になるが市場価値はキンメダイほど高くはない。
