カウンターインテリジェンスとは、情報セキュリティに関する用語で、外部からの諜報活動（intelligence）に対抗して、機密情報が外部に漏出するのを阻止する活動のことである。特に、国家の行政に関わる機密をサイバー空間を通じて窃取・破壊しようとする「サイバーインテリジェンス」に対する防衛活動を指すことが多い。
日本では、2006年12月に内閣官房内閣情報調査室に「カウンターインテリジェンス推進会議」を設置し、カウンターインテリジェンスに関する体制の強化を推進している。
2011年10月現在、カウンターインテリジェンスに関連して物議を醸した事件としては、2010年に警視庁のテロ捜査情報が流出した事件、尖閣諸島における中国漁船衝突事件で海上保安庁の撮影した映像が流出して「YouTube」上で公開された事件、2011年9月に国内防衛産業の拠点となるいくつかの企業が標的型メールによるサイバー攻撃を受け、防衛機密の流出の疑いが生じた事件、などがある。

防諜（ぼうちょう、英:Counterintelligence、略語CI）とは、外国政府やテロリストによる諜報活動や破壊活動を無力化することである[1]。
