たぶのき［1］【椨▼】

クスノキ科の常緑高木。暖地の海岸地方に生える。高さ15 メートルに達する。葉は長楕円形で質厚く光沢があり、枝先付近に多数互生する。晩春、枝端から円錐花序を出し、黄緑色の小花を多数つける。材は枕木・家具などに用い、樹皮や葉の粉末は線香の結合剤に、樹皮はタンニンを含み黄褐色の染料にもする。タブ。イヌグス。ダマ。ダモ。クスダモ。

タブノキ（椨 Machilus thunbergii）とはクスノキ科タブノキ属の常緑高木である。イヌグス・タマグス・ヤマグス・ツママとも称される。単にタブとも。ワニナシ属（Persea、アボカドと同属、熱帯アメリカなどに分布）とする場合もある（学名：Persea thunbergii）。
