日本国憲法の精神に基づき、また教育基本法の制定を受けて、1947年に制定された学校教育全体の具体的な内容を定めた法律。高等教育機関の質保証に関する規定として、従来より実施されている大学等の設置を文部科学省が認可する制度のほか、2003年には新たに自己点検・評価及び認証評価の実施が義務化された。

This law was enacted in 1947 based on the spirit of the Japanese Constitution and in response to the enactment of the Fundamental Law of Education, which defines the specifics of the provision of school education. Regarding the need for quality assurance in higher education institutions, under the 2003 amended Law, self-assessment and certified evaluation and accreditation were made compulsory, in addition to the existing MEXT approval system of the establishment of universities.

学校教育法 （がっこうきょういくほう）

１９４７年（昭和２２年）に公布されました。教育基本法［きょういくきほんほう］にもとづいて、学校制度の基本を定めた法律です。この法律で現在の小学校６年、中学校３年、高等学校３年、大学４年からなる新しい学制が定められました。
