基底関数系 (化学)

理論化学および計算化学において、基底関数系（きていかんすうけい、英: basis set）とは、（量子化学計算において一般的なように）線形結合により分子軌道を構成する元となる関数（基底関数と呼ぶ）の集合をいう。便利さのために、基底関数は原子を中心とする原子軌道とすることが多いが、理論的にはどのような関数でも構わない。物質科学分野の計算においては平面波を基底とすることが多い。
