フン族

フン族（フンぞく、Hun）は、ヴォルガ川東方から現れた遊牧民の集団で、370年頃にヨーロッパへ移住して大帝国を築いた。彼らは恐らく300年程前に中国の北隣に居住していた匈奴の子孫であり[1]、テュルク系民族のユーラシア大陸にまたがる最初の拡張であろう[2][3]。フン族の起源と言語（en）は数世紀にわたり議論の的になっている。現在の学説では彼らの指導者たちの名はテュルク諸語で表されているとされている[4][5]。彼らの主な軍事技術は騎乗弓射である。
フン族は民族大移動を誘発し、西ローマ帝国崩壊の要因となった。フン族はアッティラの元で統一帝国を築いたが、453年に彼が死ぬとその翌年に帝国は瓦解した。同じ名称の後裔または後継者がおおよそ4世紀から6世紀に東ヨーロッパと中央アジアの一部に住んでいたと記録されている。フン族の末裔が8世紀前半にカフカスで記録されている。
