ウィリアム・アロイシャス・"ビル"・バーゲン（William Aloysius "Bill" Bergen, 1878年6月13日[1]-1943年12月19日[1]）は、20世紀初頭の野球選手[1]。ポジションは捕手[1]。打撃能力が極めて低く、打撃においていくつかのメジャーリーグ最低記録を残したため、「史上最低の打者」[2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9]と評される。ただし守備能力は高く[3][9]、守備に関してはメジャーリーグ史上屈指の捕手であるとも評される[7][10]。

- ^ 1909年当時のメジャーリーグでは、打撃ランキングの対象となるための条件は「所属チームの全試合の60%以上に出場すること」であった[24]。現在のメジャーリーグで打撃ランキング対象となるための条件は「所属チームの全試合数の3.1倍の打席数（規定打席）に達すること」と定められており[24]、1909年のバーゲンの成績（全155試合[25]中112試合に出場[14]、373打席で打率.139[14]）は当時の試合出場数の条件は満たすものの、現在の基準である規定打席の条件は満たさない。規定打席到達者としての最低のシーズン打率は、1991年のロブ・ディアーと2013年のダン・アグラが記録した打率.179（両者ともに448打数80安打）であったが[26]、2018年にクリス・デービスが打率.168（470打数79安打）へと更新した[27][28]。
- ^ 野手に限定せず投手を含めたメジャーリーグの連続打数無安打記録としては、ボブ・ビュール投手の85打数[32]（87打数[33]とも）がある。
- ^ 通算3228打席で被死球なしというバーゲンの記録は長らく見過ごされており、アメリカ野球学会（SABR）の会員によって1998年に発見された[34]。またバーゲンの記録をマーク・レムキーが（1997年に）更新していたことも、同じくSABRの会員によって1999年に発見された[34]。
