ジョゼフ・ラドヤード・キップリング (Joseph Rudyard Kipling, 1865年12月30日 - 1936年1月18日) は、イギリスの小説家、詩人で、イギリス統治下のインドを舞台にした作品、児童文学で知られる。ボンベイ (ムンバイ) 生まれ。19世紀末から20世紀初頭のイギリスで最も人気のある作家の一人で、代表作に小説『ジャングル・ブック』『少年キム』、詩『マンダレー』など。「短編小説技巧の革新者」とみなされ[1]、児童向け作品は古典として愛され続けており、作品は「多彩で光り輝く物語の贈り物」と言われる[2][3]。1907年にノーベル文学賞を、41歳の史上最年少で、イギリス人としては最初に受賞[4]。他にイギリス桂冠詩人、爵位などを打診されたが辞退している[5]。
