ウォルター・ホイットマン (Walter Whitman, 1819年5月31日 – 1892年3月26日) はアメリカ合衆国の詩人、随筆家、ジャーナリスト、ヒューマニスト。超越主義から写実主義への過渡期を代表する人物の一人で、作品には両方の様相が取り込まれている。アメリカ文学において最も影響力の大きい作家の一人でもあり、しばしば「自由詩の父」と呼ばれる[1]。発表当時の作品に対する評価は大きく割れ、特にその代表作の詩集『草の葉』は性的表現があからさまなところから「わいせつ」と評された。
