アメリカ合衆国の植民地時代

アメリカ合衆国の植民地時代（アメリカがっしゅうこくのしょくみんちじだい、英: Colonial history of the United States）は、ヨーロッパ人による植民地化から始まり、ヨーロッパからの独立のときまでの歴史であり、特に1776年に独立を宣言した13植民地の歴史である[1]。16世紀後半からイングランド、スコットランド、フランス、スウェーデン、スペインおよびオランダが北アメリカ大陸東部の植民地化を始めた[2][3]。初期の多くの植民の試み、特にイギリスによるロアノーク植民地は失敗に終わったが、幾つかの植民地が設立された。ヨーロッパ人開拓者達は様々な社会と宗教の集団から出てきた者達だった。恒久的に定着した貴族階級はいなかったが、多くの冒険家、軍人、農夫および貿易業者が到着した。その中でもニューネーデルラントのオランダ人、ニュースウェーデンのスウェーデン人とフィンランド人、ペンシルベニアのイギリス系クエーカー教徒、ニューイングランドのイギリス系ピューリタン、ジェームズタウンのイギリス系開拓者およびジョージアの「清貧な」人々、それぞれの集団が新大陸に来て植民地を建設し、社会、宗教、政治および経済の様式に特徴あるものをもたらした。
歴史家達は通常、後にアメリカ合衆国東部となった土地に4つのはっきりした地域を認めている。北から南にニューイングランド、大西洋岸中部、チェサピーク湾植民地（アッパー・サウス）およびローワー・サウスである。歴史家の中には5番目の地域としてフロンティアを加える者がいるが、これは別に組織化されたものではなかった。後のアメリカ合衆国に土地を与えたその他の植民地としては、ヌーベルフランス、ケベック（フランス領ルイジアナ）、ヌエバ・エスパーニャ[4]およびロシア領アラスカがあった[5]。
