クローズドキャプション（closed captioning、CC）とは、テレビやビデオほか映像ディスプレイに文字表示を出して追加補足情報を提供する字幕の一種。ここでは主に英語圏での状況について説明する。

- ^ もう1つ、米国立キャプション研究所 (National Captioning Institute) によって商標登録済みのロゴは、ふきだしの内側にテレビの単純な幾何学図形（辺が湾曲した四角形）があるもので、ふきだしの尾は右向きと左向きの2種類ある[1]。
- ^ 以後、当記事では「聴覚障害者用の字幕」のことをキャプションと基本表記する。
- ^ 具体的には、英語・スペイン語以外の番組、収入の2％以上がキャプション費用となる事業者、収益が300万米ドルに満たない放送網、特定の地方限定番組などが例外[11]。
