アマゾン熱帯雨林

アマゾン熱帯雨林（アマゾンねったいうりん、Amazon Rainforest）とは、南アメリカアマゾン川流域に大きく広がる、世界最大面積を誇る熱帯雨林である。省略してアマゾンとも呼ばれる。アマゾン熱帯雨林の面積の70%はブラジルにある。
植物はエネルギーを得るために二酸化炭素を利用して光合成を行い、炭素を固定するとともに酸素を放出しているが、アマゾンは二酸化炭素を吸収する量が多いため「地球の肺」とも呼ばれている[1]。しかし、主に牛の放牧地を作るために急速に森林が焼き払われている[1]。
