アドルフ・ヒトラーの死

1945年4月30日、ナチス総統アドルフ・ヒトラーは総統地下壕の一室にて、妻であるエヴァ・ブラウンと共に自殺を遂げた（アドルフ・ヒトラーの死）。自殺の手段は、銃[1]と劇薬であるシアン化物を複合的に用いたものとされている。
ヒトラーの生前の意向に従い、夫妻の遺体はガソリンをかけて燃やされたが、その残骸はソ連軍のSMERSHにより発見、回収された。ソ連によりヒトラーの遺体は秘密裏に埋められたが、1970年に掘り起こされ、完全に焼却された後にエルベ川に散骨された。これらの情報は冷戦終結後の1992年にソ連のKGBとロシアのFSBに保管されていた記録が公開されたことによって明らかになった。また、これによりトレヴァー＝ローパーの1947年の著書 The Last Days of Hitler で示されたヒトラーの死についての見解が裏付けられた。
