アトランタ（Atlanta）は、アメリカ合衆国ジョージア州北西部に位置する都市。同州の州都・最大都市であり、またフルトン郡の郡庁所在地である。市域の大部分はフルトン郡内にあり、一部東隣のディカブ郡にかかっている。人口はアトランタ市域内で420,003人、フルトン郡を中心に28郡にまたがる都市圏では5,268,860人を数える（ともに2010年国勢調査）[1]。
古くは鉄道交通のハブとして、また綿花産業の中心地として栄えた。やがてコカ・コーラ、デルタ航空、CNNなど多数の大企業が本社を置くようになり、ジョージア州のみならずアメリカ合衆国南部の商業・経済の中心地としての役割を担うようになった。1990年代に入ると、アトランタはアメリカ合衆国南部にとどまらず、国際的にも影響力を持つまでになり、先進国の都市の中では最も高い成長を遂げている都市の1つに数えられるようになった[2]。経済面での国際的な影響力に加え、「世界で最も忙しい空港」と呼ばれるハーツフィールド・ジャクソン・アトランタ国際空港[3]を前面に抱え、1996年の夏季オリンピック開催地としても世界的な知名度を有するアトランタは、2010年、アメリカの外交専門誌フォーリンポリシーにより、世界第40位の世界都市に選ばれている[4]。
アトランタは南部特有の夏の蒸し暑さと冬の温暖さから、「ホットランタ」（Hotlanta）という異名をつけられている。アトランタの南、メーコンを拠点として活動しているバンド、オールマン・ブラザーズ・バンドは、1971年にこの異名を取った「ホットランタ」（Hot 'Lanta）という楽曲を発表した。アトランタの住民は「アトランタンズ」（Atlantans）と呼ばれている。
